The Department of Art offers degree programs leading to Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the history of art, design and visual culture, as well as Master of Fine Arts and Master of Design degrees in several studio disciplines. The department also offers undergraduate programs in art history, design and visual culture. Programs leading to the MDes degree offer advanced study in visual communication design or industrial design. Programs leading to an MFA degree are designed for advanced students in painting, sculpture, printmaking, or drawing/medium. Master's and PhD programs in art history, design and visual culture offer advanced study and research.

An MA can be either course-based or thesis-based. Masters students of the studio are offered enough independent workspaces and all the equipment necessary for the development of study and research work. A well-stocked university library and the department's Visual Resource Center with access to digital images and over 300,000 slides provide reference material. 18 full-time academic staff are available for guidance and discussion.
