Course Details

UCC Computer Science graduates understand how computer systems work and how we can harness their potential to develop the advanced computer applications our modern world depends on. The Bachelor of Computer Science is a full-time, four-year degree that covers all aspects of computer systems (both software and hardware) and ICT (information and communication technology), including software, database technology, computer networks, operating systems, and algorithms, information security, network technology and applications.
The College of Computing and Information Technology aims to ensure employability and has a compulsory internship module in Year 3. To complete the internship module, you will complete a Year 4 project supervised by one of our academic staff. It involves applying your knowledge to a technology challenge of your choice and helps develop your skills and understanding of computer science.

Internship:
In the 3rd year (at the end of the second semester), you complete a compulsory work placement which provides real-life experience in the workplace. The internship can last 6 or 12 months. Working in a corporate environment gives you additional skills that cannot be taught in a lecture or lab. You will work as part of a team to solve real problems with financial impact. The internship is jointly supervised by an academic officer and an employee of the company.
