Course Details

The Roehampton Secondary Computing PGCE is a new bespoke programme, developed and taught in partnership with leading computing teachers in local schools. The university is at the forefront of computer science education and staff participate in the curriculum. 
The student learns about the challenges and opportunities of teaching computer science, information technology and digital literacy in secondary schools. The course explores how approaches from the world of software development, such as skill and craft, can be paralleled in the classroom and applied to the teaching and learning of programming and digital media. The course provides the skills to develop students' computational thinking and ICT skills both within and outside the subject curriculum. 

With the help of written assignments, you can base your professional interests on the basis of the basic competence of pedagogical subjects. The course is ideal for recent graduates of computer-related degrees and those with practical software development experience. The university hopes to offer a pre-subject competency development course for graduates without programming experience in other departments.

The MSc Computing Degree is a conversion program that requires no previous academic experience in computing, making it the ideal course if you want to change careers or develop new skills to complement your existing experience and move into a wider range of exciting IT and IT roles. The course focuses on key IT skills such as software, databases and cyber security and will help you develop into a competent and fluent IT professional.

You will study cyber security by examining the life cycle of a computing professional, legal frameworks and tools, including legal, social and ethical issues in information security such as hacking and its ethical perspective. You will learn software development and work with data, you will smoothly develop your Python skills, and you will also have the opportunity to become a Certified Ethical Hacker (EH) through the EC Council. You will complete your degree with a project that investigates a topic of your choice, producing a product and a further report.

In this course, you have the opportunity to complete an industrial internship, which can be completed as a 3-month module during the summer semester (May-September) or as a year-long module after completing the MSc project.
