Study Options

A traditional degree course in the UK consists of three years of undergraduate study, although some subjects require an additional year, usually in science and engineering. Accelerated degrees are also available, suitable for a two-year period instead of a course. Bachelor studies can also be completed in double award degrees, where two courses are taught and covered at the same time, giving the student a wider range of modules and experiences to help them enter work. Unlike many other countries, the UK usually has a 1-year master’s degree rather than over 2 years, which can make it an attractive choice for this level of education, where the same degree can be achieved in half the time. Foundation courses are also available to assist international students with English proficiency or conditional offer contracts.

Exams to study in the United Kingdom

If you want to study abroad in the UK, you will usually have to take a test to demonstrate your English language skills, in writing, speaking, listening, and reading. Each institution determines what tests you must take to prove that your English is good enough to study there.  The most common tests for UK universities are IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic and Cambridge English Advanced, all of which are accepted by most education providers and UK immigration services.

However, it is important to check your chosen course and institution before paying to complete it in order to gain admission. Other tests you may need to take depend on the type, of course, you want to study. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is usually required for graduate business programs and assesses algebra, arithmetic, geometry, grammar and more. The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is similar but more widely used, while there are special exams for law, medical and mathematics students.
