Cape Breton University is a public university in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It dates back to the creation of St. Francis Xavier University Sydney Campus in 1951 as a satellite of St Francis Xavier University. In 1974 it merged with the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology to become the College of Cape Breton before becoming a full university in 1982.
It has ranked 19th in the MacLean's undergraduate university rankings and 46th in its reputation rankings. It also ranked 6th in the student satisfaction survey. It has just over 5,500 students including, 3,500 from more than 55 countries around the world. This makes it one of the most diverse and multicultural universities in Canada.
